Wild Stories. Snackable Science. Classic TV
A puppet-powered wildlife web series with heart, smarts and silly bits. For the young and young-at-heart.
After its wildly successful “mockmentary” pilot season, Scout Perry and her crew of curious (and slightly chaotic) ground squirrels have taken over the forest’s favourite television station. Comedy, science and retro vibes are still at the heart of what they do, but with a new focus on how local species and environments are adapting to new climate realities.
A snackable mash-up of “The Muppets”, “SCTV” and “Hinterland Who’s Who”, each 15-minute episode features a sketch comedy segment, a science explainer, a climate report and conversations with experts and everyday folks to learn how animals, ecosystems and people can all be better neighbours.
Equal parts silly and sincere, Northern Tails is original edutainment created in the Yukon, Canada – to be shared around the world.

Audience ~ curious, creative, nostalgic
Puppets have a special talent to entertain and educate. Northern Tails is a show for all ages — the young and young-at-heart. It resonates with kids who are seeking independent knowledge and goofy humour. Parents appreciate quality “edutainment” and retro production style. More broadly, the show appeals to people who align with the spirit and virtues of the show including: nature nuts, environmental champions, puppet groupies and creators – nostalgic and new.
The characters
Northern Tails is hosted by Scout Perry, the newly minted station producer and her brave (and slightly clueless) crew of ground squirrels. Each episode features animals and ecosystems of the boreal forest and explores how they behave and relate to each other. The characters are developed using key biological characteristics of the species – with a zap of pop culture to keep things fun.
Our popular Season 1 all-stars are returning in Season 2 but we also have some new boreal neighbours in the lineup – animal and plant species, an entire ecosystem (who is larger than life) and climate elements make cameos.

Learning themes
Did you know that the Boreal Forest is bigger than the Amazon? It’s one of the largest ecosystems on the planet and an important part of managing environmental change, but very few of us understand the factors at play. As we explore the boreal, we learn what our wild neighbours do for us and what they need to survive.
WHO LIVES IN THE BOREAL?
We’ll meet the iconic species in the forest, learn about their biology, habitats and the role they play in the ecosystem.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
The Boreal’s swampy muskeg and thick forests aren’t as well-known or photogenic as the Amazon or Arctic, but they are true superstars of the planet's health.
HOW IS IT CHANGING?
Shifts in climate and increased human development are challenging the boreal’s animals and plants. How (and if) they adapt is important to all of us.
Northern Stories, Produced in the Yukon, Canada
“The North” is more than a shared stomping ground (tread lightly!) and the setting for our show – it’s a collective sensibility.
Our production is about life in the north and how we relate to the land and the animals – that we are all neighbours here. But it’s also about northerners telling northern stories. For our second six episodes, we had a team of 40 Yukoners who collectively filled 60 different production and post-production positions. Almost all of them were part of our first season and were excited to have another “bite at the apple.” By investing in a team of local writers, puppeteers and crew, we are taking a new approach using northern opportunities to create a production that can be a reoccurring series and build a more sustainable local screen-based economy.
